Peace Over Price Tags: Where Luxury Meets Meaning

Society says luxury is:

Expensive cars

A big, fancy house

A lavish lifestyle

But the real luxuries in life are:

Peace of mind

Good health

Time with loved ones

Mental clarity

A strong body

Meaningful relationships

Freedom to do what you love

Inner happiness

A stress-free life

Quality sleep

Here are some mindful shifts that can bring us closer to what we envision as Luxuries of Life:

·       Your biggest enemy is your uncontrolled mind.

Your greatest battles aren’t with the world—they’re with your own thoughts. An undisciplined mind can magnify fear, doubt, and insecurity, even when none truly exist. Lets master our mind, so that we can master our life.

·       Close the window that hurts you, no matter how beautiful the view is.

Not everything that looks good is good for our peace. If something continues to hurt us—no matter how tempting or beautiful it seems—walk away. Peace is worth more than the illusion of perfection.

·       The power of NO: I’ve learned that saying no is not about rejection—it’s about intention. Choosing simplicity over obligation is an act of clarity and self-respect. Life is ultimately a series of choices, and I choose peace. I choose to invest my time and energy in what truly matters. At the end of the day, I would rather lead a life rich with meaning than the one merely packed with commitments.

·       Patterns don’t lie—change is the exception, not the rule. Not everyone deserves a second chapter in your story. I’ve learned to stop expecting new endings from old people and their behaviour.

·       The heart seeks love, the mind chases success, but the soul craves peace — and I believe the true luxury of life lies in having all three in harmony. A life of love, success, and peace — that's the luxury we should be building, not just dreaming of.

·       Anyone who makes you feel like you’re not enough doesn’t deserve a place in your life. Our worth isn’t up for debate. We are more than enough just as we are. Let’s distance ourself from anything or anyone that makes us forget that.

·       What feels heavy in silence can feel lighter in words. Small talk often holds the key to big healing. That’s why it is said, small talk can actually fix a lot.

·       Sometimes, the loudest support comes from unexpected places—while those we once counted on stay silent. I got strangers clapping louder for me than the people I thought really cared for me.

·       In a world full of conditions and changing loyalties, God remains the only constant. His presence is the one place where we are endlessly valued, seen, and loved.

·       Bura lagta hai to lagney do, Mujhey bhi lagta tha

बुरा लगता है तो लगने दो, मुझे भी लगता था।

If it hurts, let it hurt — it used to hurt me too.

·       Behissab hasratein na paliyein, bus jo mila hai ussey sambhaliye

बेहिसाब हसरतें ना पलियें, बस जो मिला है उसे सम्भालियें।

Don’t nurture endless desires—let go of the urge to have it all.
Instead, cherish what you already have and hold it with gratitude.

How i learnt my way of "Man Proposes, God Disposes"

Yes!!!I made a list of things I got done in 2024! I said to wisdom

"You still don't get it, do you Tanu?"

"Don't get what?"

"That there is a whole universe at play between what you do and what gets done"

Recently we planned a "girl's only" trip. And the start was awesome as the pictures below reflect.

But the evening, we reached, I fell sick when accompanying my two little daughters (of 6 & 4.5) and my mother in law (Senior Citizen).

The next day was planned for the next destination (MAN'S PLANNINGGGGG....) and with a medicine in, we decided to move to our next destination.

My health deteriorated even more, but I think that was how the God had planned it for us!

The third day, as planned (our plan) we had to go and attend a kid's outing... And guess what! I was burning with fever and everyone around were even more scared than me. But my Mom in Law (as the iron lady she is) stood strong, got the kids ready and took the kids out, while I rested on the bed almost immobile.

Final day, we got the booking done for back home and with the support of two dozes of medicines (1 while starting and another during the journey) we somehow reached back home.

HOME where everything seems perfect, fine and all your worries flies away because you are surrounded with your loved ones, your environment and your four walls.

This trip taught me few things:

1. How unpredictable life is!

2. How important it is to value our family!

3. Who are our well wishers!

4. And various other meanings and interpretations of life!

5. Pictures do create memories (on a lighter note)!

No matter how hard the time was, or will be, I know I am Blessed with the Best people around and I am and will always be grateful and thankful for that FOREVER :)

So, My answer to "What does it mean to say, Man proposes, God Disposes"

would be

Probably, NO MATTER WHAT YOU PLAN, NO MATTER HOW HARD YOU TRY TO EXECUTE YOUR PLAN, THE END RESULT WILL NOT BE IN YOUR HANDS!

Well Everything is in God's hands, we give our best but God wasn't willing to make it work! Because God always have a better plan/ lesson for you.

Stability a myth: My life story

Introduction

Born and brought up in the capital of the country, you can call me a big town girl, belonging to a middle-income group family by virtue of birthing in a service class family. No big or fancy profits at the end of every month but a hard-earned salary getting credited into the account of both of my working parents. We, I, and my sister, have been taught from the beginning that to earn something extra you have to be little more extra ordinary because the resource set at your disposal is very limited. I still remember how for claiming that one piece of, so called imported, chocolates; I and my sisters have always been advised to get some unrealistic grades or some next to impossible positions. Although they looked like the most difficult things to achieve, but with the end rewards attached to them, they always made us work hard to achieve. Moral of the story, which we have been living since childhood now is, EARN IT TO HAVE IT.

Educational Endowments

What made me a decision maker since the beginning is the liberty to choose when others of my age were served with an already chosen plater. That played a major role in making me a present version of myself . At that point in time, it was really a matter of pride to choose or decide for my own self as to what I want to pursue further up in my studies and that’s when I decided a non-medical background for myself, when my father wanted both his daughters to be doctors. So, I decided to be a doctor in my own field when, back in those days, doctor was just a synonymous to medical profession. This was the starting point when I decided to be an Economist.

My love affair

It was during my masters when I met this guy and fell in love with. Knowing that he comes from an entirely different family background, culturally different set up and most importantly from a state which is like “some 3-digit number” miles away. But I take pride in stating that after fighting all the odds against us, we could manage to continue our long-distance relation then and a married couple now.

Electrifying corporate life

It is during the end of our master’s degree when I got into a good corporate job, and he decided to move back to his town to do something more exciting, matching his choice and alignment of mind. Actually, or probably, this is the only common thing we have between us; TO BE THE DECISION MAKERS FOR OURSELVES. He went back to initiate a start-up in those times when literally the dictionary did not have this word called “STARTUP” in it. And this made our love story harder, because making a middle-class service man (my dad) understand the meaning of start-up was the toughest thing to do. And when every father wants a king to marry his daughter, you cannot convince him easily to married off her daughter to a person who is just in the initial phase of investing without a prior date of returns attached to this. But I happily claim to sail through all of it, though it took a lot of time.

Parting away from my earning profile

Always being known for making the bold decisions in my family, I decided to take one more of such decisions wherein I decided to quit my job, which was paying me handsomely at that time, to join a full time Ph.D. program and starting again as a student. Afterall, this also was a prestige as I could crack the only seat, to enter one of the best universities of not only the country but the world. Since this decision took away the financial independence so I had to constraint myself on many grounds to a given limited income coming via fellowship.

This phase did not only give me the wisdom to follow a sustainable lifestyle but also exposed me to the world full of realities. Reality of being able to survive with the basic minimum means of living, reality to survive when you do not have fancy earnings, reality to see the world in a one Levis jeans worn for more than a month etc. etc. I really had my learning curve moving upward during this phase of my life, when I was surrounded with the most intellectual population and the best mentors to guide me through, not only my thesis, but life.

This was the time when I visited most of the states and could also crossed the international boundaries just because I could manage to work well on my projects, my research works and my assignments. I was exposed to the world full of shining and same minded people and had the privilege to interact to the best mentors of the world in my field of study. God was really kind enough to me as I was given my fair chance to grow up once again. I cannot be more thankful for this time of my life, which majority of population can only dream to live off.

Enquiry time

Many of you must have been wondering as to why was I do not get stable in life till now. May be because, “Change is the only constant thing” was my life’s principle and that kept me going.

When wishes got granted

When I got married and started living with my husband and his family in a state, many miles away, from mine, I got through the most prestigious and the most difficult of all the tests to enter the Government Jobs. That was a dream come true and I thought I got everything which I ever wished for. And that was the point, I thought, will bring the stability into my otherwise volatile and a nomadic life.

Entering a secured job structure with the most respected and fancy facilities and the finest salary package, I joined the service around 7 years back. The only drastic decision I took at that time was to again have a long-term relationship with my husband as we decided to work in two different states. But this did not bother both of us at that time as we were young and enthusiastic enough to travel miles, every weekend or to explore the places on our mutual off days. That’s how the life moved, and I had nothing to complain about.

Entry of liveliness

Kids happened and I found myself standing on the crossroad of life, thinking as to what all and how to manage further with two kids and two different workstations of mine and my husband’s.

Afterall, we still live in the world of dilemma where women have historically been the primary caretaker of children and in the same vein, men have historically been the breadwinners and are expected to succeed in their careers to be providers. But again, going against all the myths and at the same time, duly supported by everyone in the family, I decided to move back to my workplace with two kids (under two) along and we mutually decided that papa (my husband) will keep moving in and out of the state and I will remain stationary at one station.

Again, I must appreciate that no one interfered in my decision of moving away from my in-law’s family with the kids, when they had all the reasons and liberty to do that. But they all supported my decision and allowed me the flexibility of being my own decision maker. I really respect them for this and cannot thank them enough for giving me the most wanted liberty and courage.

Self-calling

Things were moving on, but there was a guilt within me which kept on firming in with time that I was doing a crime to keep the kids away from their father and the most precious love of their grandparents. As they say, that when you get stuck, take the time away and when you come back, you will know if it’s working for you or not. And that is the moment when clarity comes in.  That’s what I did to get my mind clear off all the thoughts clouding my thought process. And this was the time again when I decided to take another bold decision of my life. Yes, again a decision, a life changing one.

I decided to quit my Government Job, a gazetted post, a post with lot many prestigious powers and benefits attached to it. The decision which I took was of the kind that not even one in millions take. There wasn’t even one single person I met or heard from, who supported this decision of mine when it comes to professional growth with job stability of a working professional.

The only thing which kept me strong on this decision was MY PRIORITY IN LIFE which was and will always be my FAMILY. Families set the stage for future relationships; when life gets hard, feeling of acceptance and understanding only comes from family; it is only the family that provides affection and encouragement which a person needs to feel content. It is only family that foster a sense of belonging to something greater than oneself. It is only those people who have been raised in the close families, develop healthier relationships throughout their lives. I have lived to the fact that it is the family where I have learnt how to manage my emotions, how to interact with others. It was the first setting where I learnt about the consequences, punishments, and the concept of rewards. These lessons only shaped my world view and helped me to see how the world worked. Along with the life lessons, I have learned all the value systems by and being within my family.  It is only the healthy families that forms the backbone of any healthy society. And then I decided to not to dare take this away from my kids.

I took this decision of shifting back to my husband’s place and fitting myself into a private work set up for my kids to grow up in an atmosphere where they find a sense of belongingness, where they find their mamma and papa both loving them equally, where their grandparents shower them with their choicest blessings and love, where they can grow each day to be a better version of their self.

I’ll not make a mistake of calling my life a stable one now because you don’t know what it has to offer you next, but at present I am content and have no regrets for taking any decision, whatsoever.

Is LIfe Bigger Than Death?

I carry a signature saying, "Life is bigger than death." These are hope-filled comfort words.   When I long for my Mom's hug, and miss loved ones who have left this world, I nestle into this truth.

The other day I were low, missing many around, and I don’t know if God knew it? While driving that day I tuned in to a radio channel where the speaker was about to share some live events which let you believe that life is really bigger than death. It sounded like this;

It is about:
Writer of many films such as: Aawara, Shri 420, Mera Naam Jokar, Bobby, etc.
Producer and Director to some offbeat films namely: Saat Hindustani, Do boond Paani, etc.
Khawaja Ahmad Abbas, popularly known as K.A. Abbas, also a column writer in Blitz Newspaper, which use to be liked and appreciated hugely by readers.
The days during which he realized that there are not many days left to his life, then he called his secretary Abdul Rehman and handed over him his will. Which, as per his last wish, was decided to read in front of everyone including his relatives and friends only after his demise.
On 1st June 1987, he said his last goodbye to life. And as per his choice and desire, the will was read after that in front of his loved and dear ones. Some of the paragraphs of the same are as follows:
I, Khawaja Ahmad Abbas, age 73 years, in all my senses, but in the bad health phase of my life, would like to share my thoughts about my life. Many people do not even live for 70 years but fortunately, I lived 3 years more than that. Please don’t grief or mourn on my death. Please don’t shed any tear.
While laying me to rest, please take care of the fact that when you take me for my last journey, from home to graveyard, play Maharashtra Band in front of it. When you pick me up from home, it should be on my friends shoulder. Bring my body to Chaupati near Mahatma Gandhi’s Statute, and entomb me next to my wife.
I don’t know anything about hell and heaven, but in this life I have already experienced what heaven would be like and also I have skilled how hell would be. And that is why I request you all to celebrate my death and not feel sorry about it. And I really want that the people mentioned below should not speak for more than 5 minutes.
1.   Editor Biltz: R. K. Kalanjia (Rustom Khurshedji Karanjia)
2.  Prolific and versatile Urdu writer: Ali Sardar Jafri
3.  Indian film dialogue and screenwriter: Inder Raj Aanand
4.  V.P. Sathe
5.  Roshan Fayal Maulvi (Muslim), Brahaman (hindu), Essai (Christian)

They were the closest to him but they all were allowed to speak not even for 5 minutes, may be because he never wanted his closed one to suffer in any way, neither emotionally nor physically.
Alright my dear friends, please accept my blessings and love.
When do we meet next, or don’t know if we ever meet again or not, but if you want to meet me and speak to me then please turn the pages of books written by me. I promise to meet you there in those books. Alright! Good Bye! Good Bye! Good Bye!
Rest only Love, Love and love.

And that day I could not ask the God to expand my knowledge on the idea more. I’ve graciously offered some keys to more fully comprehend the greatest gift God has given each of us.  The gift of LIFE:
1. Life is a Person, death is not.
2. Because Life is a Person, there is relationship. Another way to describe death is the diminishment or cessation of relationship.
3. Life exists without any reference to death, but death cannot 'seem to exist' except in reference to Life.
4. Out of Life emerges all of creation, death has created nothing.
5. Life is pro-creative and co-creative, death is sterile.
6. Human beings introduced death (un-created Life); it does not originate in God.
7. God, who is Life, defeated death and did so as a human being.
8. Death can be un-done and swallowed up.  Life can only be lied about.
9. Life continues after 'death'.

10. Death will ultimately be eradicated; Life promised!

Some coffee, birds and lessons

While sitting in a fantastic place with the blue sky above, sprinkling water over your head to keep you cool and the delicious food to keep you away from hunger I observed few things today. These are the things which we generally overlook but when we dive into the deep meaning of every small little detail of these, then we come to know that they usually teach us those lessons which otherwise we ignore.

“Hey, do you want to grab coffee soon?”

It’s a text that regularly lights up my phone; it’s one I’ve sent many times. When I moved to this present job, shortly after finishing my PhD, I knew none in this government land. And later got to know just few, rather just two who can be asked for coffee or Friday evenings’ celebrations, because my initial concerns were adjusting to my new job and not  knowing many as I have always been choosy on the people whom I love to conversant with. I will get to know people gradually, I thought.

There was new job, there was work, there was other stuff — and there was plenty of “grabbing coffee” with new acquaintances in the midst of it all. (Can we also briefly acknowledge how weird of a phrase “grabbing coffee” is?) Yet as the months and then years passed, I still felt like I only really knew those same two people or may be two more now. I’d just left a campus where I felt like I knew everyone, and this sense of loneliness — of missing something — became heavier and heavier.
What was I doing wrong?

Good news! I’m not alone in this eternal cycle of lattes and small talk now.

And thank goodness science is here to explain why: In the 2012 New York Times article “Friends of a Certain Age,” Alex Williams references the “three conditions that sociologists since the 1950s have considered crucial to making close friends: proximity; repeated, unplanned interactions; and a setting that encourages people to let their guard down and confide in each other.” This combination of factors, according to sociology professor Rebecca G. Adams, “is why so many people meet their lifelong friends in college.”

But now college is over, and Williams writes that “it’s time to resign yourself to situational friends: K.O.F.’s (kind of friends) — for now.”

“Kind of friends” are those people with whom you set up a meeting at Starbucks or any other (in a series of texts that include an appropriately cheerful amount of exclamation points). They’re the friends who ask about where you’re from and where you went to school, and they try to find anything you might have in common. The coffee may be hot, but the conversation is lukewarm at best. Time together usually ends with “we gotta do this again soon.”

I love coffee and I love a good conversation that’s accompanied by good coffee.

Coffee invigorates the senses, boosts concentration and serves as a great backdrop to a number of different scenarios. When meeting with a friend, someone who's more than a friend or a potential employer, a batch of coffee can go a long way. Keep a cup on hand while you discuss love, life and opportunities.

"Once the mug is empty, it's time to go."

Hence my take away to sum up is, it gives you exact time with exact taste to discuss the exactly the relevant things or may be to bring in the feeling of lighter you.

Also, while sitting with the coffee in hands and observing the birds flying in one particular direction, behind them I could only see the light orange sky which absolutely looked like a blue lady, wearing a light colour saree draping some magical light in her flap making it look orange. It was a sun set effect, the sign of an end to a super day but also the start of the hope for a better tomorrow.

I also feel that since the earliest times of men, birds have inspired our deepest imaginations. Fearless and free in the sky, birds make us wonder, what would it be like to fly?

While none of us can sprout wings, we can all simply observe and learn from these beautiful creatures on how to create a beautiful life. Here are life lessons I could sum up today:

1. Be confident.
Birds learn to trust themselves before they take off in the sky. So have faith in your abilities and know that you will find a warm current to soar in.

2. Let your colors shine.
Different birds have hundreds of different hues. Be bright and make sure you aren’t hiding what makes you one-of-a-kind.

3. Show up early and often.
The legendary early bird gets the worm for a reason. So find something worth showing up for, and then show up every day.

4. Go with the seasons.
Birds thrive despite changes in their environment. Be fluid and go with the flow, trusting your ability to always find a branch to land on.

5. Flock together.
Birds seek strength and sustenance from one another. Keep friends and family close by as you navigate the days.

6. Spread your wings.
Eventually, all birds must leave the safety of the nest and become what they are meant to be. Have no fear of falling, and start flapping.

7. Always come back to nest.
Wherever you go, whatever you do, but the home and the family is the ultimate place where you belong to and should come back to is the final lesson, none other than birds, can teach you better.

And my additional take away sums up like this: you can’t keep the birds of sadness from flying over your head, but you can keep them from nesting in your hair.

Real Love

Real love…hmm—what the hell is it? I know I’m not the only one asking, because “love” is the most googled word there is. I love the quote:“Have you ever been in love? Horrible, isn’t it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up.” Maybe love is anything that gets below the surface and shatters your armor.

Some says that romantic relationships are a training ground for true love. I remember this famous line from the movie “Love Story”, “Love means never having to say you’re sorry.”

“Are you kidding me?”

“Love means always having to say you’re sorry, and also always having to say, ‘I forgive you.’”

People talk about divine love, self-love, mother-child love, husband-wife love; maybe there’s one big love and we’re all trying to put it in a neat little box with a label. Maybe to have an overwhelming feeling of love we need to get out of the way—we need to relax and receive the beauty of this moment. Maybe love is the music that I’m listening here on my desktop that, for a moment, leaves me in awe and suspends my normal tick-tock of thoughts.

Can I say, getting hold of the vehicle to cross the ocean of life is love? If yes then OM is the vehicle. Knowing your breaths is a vehicle. And the only way you can do it is by relaxation. Relaxation is key—not lethargy, not spending all of our energy on something that doesn’t uncover our vital essence. I believe that “closing our eyes and just observing our breaths” can bring us to a state where we might catch a glimpse of an all-inclusive feeling of vastness, where maybe love makes us lay on our mats with tears streaming down our faces. Doing this is never the uniform process across all humans. It’s never about getting it right or wrong, rather it’s all about whether you do it or not. Is there patience, is there curiosity, is there a balance between yin and yang? These are questions we should be asking ourselves while we’re trying to hack the flow state.

And later when we open our eyes in new ways and when we look at something we’ve been looking at for years, we subtly get to see and hopefully feel, something entirely different. It would definitely bring out the ways which brings happiness to us, when we are happy just for ourselves. It teaches us to remain calm and composed during challenges and especially that moment when we’re about to react. It is a practice of softening the ego and reaching for our highest self.

I believe consciousness is a choice, either we want it, or we don’t. If you haven’t done this till today, start fresh. And start the fresh chapter of life by asking yourself, “What you want to do when you start fresh?” And when I am asking you to ask this question to yourself, you may want to ask me “How do you move ahead when you do not know what would be your next step?” My sincere suggestion is get moving and get going. Follow the flow of life. Everything Connects (believe me, it does). Trust Fully and Surrender Completely. And you will be perfectly OK.

And whenever you are gone away, keep coming back to trust, keep coming back to the process of knowing your breaths, keep coming back to the silent moments when you interact with your own soul; JUST KEEP COMING BACK. Because success is the only outcome of this process.

If we don’t get to know ourselves in this way, how can we tap into that love? And if we don’t tap into that love, how can we share it?
I realize that this is a lot of questions and nothing affirmed. But that’s love, right? Maybe? I don’t know.

Love,

From my heart to yours,

Tanu
